Santorini
Greece is such a wonderful place! The food is the best (I lived on Greek Salads & Yogurt with Honey) and the scenery is breathtaking.
We flew from Athens (photos to come) to Santorini for three days and stayed at Caldera Villas built right into the hillside in Oia. This area of Santorini is known for their "cave" rooms, and it was so cool to be literally sleeping in the mountain - and it kept it really cool which was a huge bonus because it was over 35 degrees celsius everyday while we were there!
Oia is definitely my favourite place to stay & explore in Santorini - the really well known blue rooftops are located here, and the streets & view of the ocean and sunsets are all so special in this part of town. We visited Fira as well for an afternoon, and while it was also beautiful, I found it to be quite a lot busier and more focused on night life than the quieter streets of Oia.
We discovered Skiza Cafe on our first day and returned each day while we were there - the food was so good (make sure to try their pie's, they are super yummy, along with their Greek Salads & Yogurt & Cappuccino's!) Make sure to go up to the second level, it is often quite and that is where the very best views are. The other place that is definitely worth a visit or two is Sunsets Cafe - Again, make sure to go upstairs (the stairs are located around the side) because this is the view to watch the sunset - and the food is insanely delicious (Try the Moussaka, so good) They definitely get busy so make sure to make a reservation to get one of the water front tables.
Another great discovery we made during our visit was that there is a place to cliff jump! When you head down to Amoudi Bay past the restaurants & cafe's and onto the rocks, you will come to a spot where you can swim across to a huge rock and you can jump off into the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea~It is definitely worth the walk, and there are some great restaurants that you can eat at and watch the sunset on the way back, too.
I absolutely fell in love with Greece & Santorini while I was there - Everyday was a new adventure walking along different tiny pathways or exploring the buildings or swimming & cliff jumping or just sitting taking in the amazing views of the ocean. As always, I can't wait to go back.
Athens & Croatia coming up!
